2023 Season

2023 is a fantastic time to be a season ticket holder at CenterPoint Legacy Theatre!  All the things we love about musical theatre are packed into this year’s lineup.  With romance, nostalgia, danger, intrigue, laughter, and of course, spectacular dance numbers, the 2023 season will not disappoint.

Starting things off we have She Loves Me, a charming romantic comedy with an endearing innocence and old-world elegance that warms the heart.  It is the story of mistaken identity, letter writing, and two feuding perfume clerks who have no idea that they have fallen in love with each other.  Based on the Mikos Lazlos play The Parfumerie, which has inspired many adaptations including The Shop Around The Corner and the beloved film You’ve Got Mail, She Loves Me is a lovely musical over which you will fall head over heels.

Our next show is packed with high-energy and catchy songs.   Inspired by the strange genius of Roald Dahl, Matilda is the story of a little girl with incredible wit, intelligence, and psychokinetic powers who dares to dream of a better life. Children and adults alike will enjoy Matilda, the story of a special little girl with an extraordinary imagination.

Get ready for the toe-tapping, quintessential Broadway blockbuster 42nd Street.  One of Broadway’s most classic and beloved shows tells the story of Peggy Sawyer, a talented young performer from Allentown, PA who arrives in New York City with taps shoes in hand, and stars in her eyes hoping to get her big break.  Filled with crowd-pleasing tap dances, iconic music, and show-stopping production numbers, 42nd Street is one you won’t want to miss.

Welcome to the Renaissance with the hysterical musical farce, Something Rotten. Set in the 1590s, two brothers, Nick and Nigel Bottom, set out to write a hit play but find it hard to break through and compete with the famed Will Shakespeare, known as “The Bard”. The brothers enlist the help of a soothsayer who predicts that the future of theatre involves singing and dancing.  Armed with this insider information, they set out to write the world’s first musical.  Something Rotten is a satirical spectacle that pokes fun at everything audiences adore about a Broadway musical.

Jekyll & Hyde the musical is based on Robert Louis Stevenson’s tale of the talented physician, Dr. Jekyll’s attempt to cure his ailing father’s mental illness by separating “good” from “evil” in the human personality.  Experimenting on himself, he inadvertently creates an alternative persona of pure evil, dubbed Mr. Hyde who wreaks murderous havoc on the city of London.  Set to the hauntingly beautiful music of Frank Wildhorn, Jekyll & Hyde is a powerful piece of musical theatre.

Finishing out the year on the Barlow Stage is the nostalgically wonderful, White Christmas.  Set in 1954 at a snowless Vermont inn, two song-and-dance men and their female counterparts come together to help save the languishing ski lodge owned by their beloved former commander, General Waverly by putting on a Christmas show. With iconic songs by the incomparable Irving Berlin like Sisters, Snow, Blue Skies, Happy Holiday, and of course White Christmas, this show is a must for your Holiday Season.

In the Leishman Performance Hall, (our Black-Box Theatre) we offer a more intimate and up-close theatrical experience, and this year we are excited to present The Lion in Winter.  Everyone loves spending time with family at Christmas, but things are tense when any misstep you make can cost you your inheritance, your lands, or your claim to the throne.  The royal family of King Henry II gathers in the year 1173 when all the intrigue, family secrets, and good wine start flowing.  Queen Eleanor, Princes Richard, Geoffrey, John, and King Phillipe of France all have plots and schemes to mastermind if they want to win this political game of chess. The Lion in Winter will not disappoint.

Our 2nd Black Box show is the delightful play, Dear Ruth

Set in the WWll era, a young girl secretly corresponds with a soldier overseas in an effort to support the troops and raise morale.  Recognizing that’s she too young to be taken seriously, she signs the name of her beautiful, but unwitting, older sister Ruth. The plot thickens as the love-struck soldier returns from the war to find that the object of his affection is already engaged.  Dear Ruth combines chaos, comedy, and romance to create this timeless, delightful show.
