Director of Culture and Engagement

“So much of me is what I learned from you. You’ll be with me like a handprint on my heart.” Wicked
I love this quotation by Oscar Wilde: “I regard the theater as the greatest of all art forms, the most immediate way in which a human being can share with another the sense of what it is to be a human being.”

To me, theater is a place where we explore the human heart, its passion, friendship, romance, loyalty, hurt and most of all its ability to change, forgive and forge love. The synergy between an audience and a performer cannot be duplicated. It is a beautiful classroom to survey our past, our victories, our defeats, and the courage of humanity to keep loving, keep trying, and keep dreaming.

CPT is an oasis in our community that has created a haven for thousands. It has provided a place of connection, celebration, and community pride. I believe that CenterPoint has taken great care to care. Our “people” mean everything to us. I have been involved since the first days of Rodgers Memorial Theatre. I have experienced the gamut- from cleaning bathrooms to donning a fancy dress to make sure everyone gets their dessert at our annual gala. It is my “other home” and I love being an ambassador for it. I have been the Director of Development for 12 years and have met the most delightful friends! I am blessed to work with such a dedicated team.

Hands down, my favorite project is my “Friday job” as the director of the Friend-to-Friend program at CPT. I am immersed in “pure liquid love” as I work with our friends with “remarkabilities”. Our winter and summer productions have brought me joy beyond measure as I watch my friends with special needs light up a stage. My favorite musicals are: Les Miserables, Ragtime, Newsies, Joseph (yes, Joseph), Wicked, Little Women, and Peter Pan.

Six of my seven children have performed on either the RMT or CPT stage. Nine of my 17 grandchildren have performed on the CPT stage. To say we are hooked is an understatement. Musical theater is my drug of choice, but I also get a high from being a grandma to GRAND kids, teaching about good books, reading historical novels wrapped in a comforter, baking calorie-laden goodies, and digging in the dirt.
