FROM THE DIRECTOR

“Believe something and the Universe is on its way to being changed. Because you’ve changed, by believing. Once you’ve changed, other things start to follow. Isn’t that the way it works?” – Diane Duane

Buddy the Elf is a believer, and Elf is a story about how he makes other people change by believing, too.

Elf is about believing.

At the beginning of rehearsals for this show, we made a Believe sign like the one on Ted Lasso. It hung at the front of the rehearsal hall, and now it lives on the wall
backstage to remind the cast and crew the big WHY of what we’re doing. We’re telling a story about the virtues of believing, and about how when we are changed by believing, other things start to follow.

Theatre, at the core, is about belief. A group of people pay money to come and sit in the dark and watch people up on a stage pretending to be somebody else. And when we do it right, this group of people has an experience of shared belief, and they leave at the end believing more than they did before.

So, I hope, amidst all of the singing and dancing and shouting and glitter and sparkle and ridiculousness and tenderness and heart and joy, I hope Elf helps you
believe something. And once you believe it, I hope other great things start to follow.

All of my thanks and praise to this production team, cast, crew, and the incredible CenterPoint Theatre family for helping me believe.

Merry Christmas!
Danny Inkley – Director

SYNOPSIS

Elf, the Musical is a story about Buddy, an orphan who crawled into Santa’s sack at an orphanage and was mistakenly taken to the North Pole where he grew up believing that he was an elf despite his large stature and less than mediocre toy-making skills.

After finding out that he was actually a human, Buddy makes the long journey to a magical place called New York City to find
his birth father, who just happens to be on the naughty list. With the innocence and enthusiasm that only Buddy can provide, the true meaning of Christmas comes shining through.
